‎The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors-NYS today announced that September is Life Insurance Awareness Month, and encouraged New York residents to explore life insurance opportunities and options for their financial needs.

Life Insurance Awareness Month is an annual recognition of the importance of protecting personal assets, developing long term financial planning and understanding the flexibility of life insurance products in attaining those protection and planning goals. Sponsored by the non-profit Life Happens organization, and supported by honorary campaign chair and professional race car driver Danica Patrick, LIAM is one of a number of public education programs supported by Life Happens.

“LIAM is both the public’s and the industry’s opportunity to review how life insurance is being used to meet the financial needs of America’s familie‎s, and how life insurance can be further deployed to improve economic security,” said NAIFA-NYS president Lawrence Holzberg. “With an array of tools available at www.lifehappens.org, we are pleased to recognize Life Happens and LIAM.”

There is more than $ 20 trillion worth of life insurance in force in the United States as of 2014. More than 25 million policies were purchased between 1998 and 2014. Despite these impressive statistics, according to Holzberg, there is much more that can be done in terms of providing New Yorker‎s access to affordable life insurance. “NAIFA-NYS and its counterparts nationwide are endeavoring to educate all Americans to the benefit of life insurance and provide them the services to take full advantage of the many offerings of our life insurance providers,” Holzberg said.

The National Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors-NYS (NAIFA-NYS) represents the interests of life insurance agents and financial advisors throughout New York.  It advocates for a positive legislative and regulatory environment, enhanced business and professional skills, and the ethical conduct of its members in order to protect consumers and to encourage a healthy marketplace.
