It had been nine years, but on January 27, our Rochester local held a legislative breakfast that emphasized the association’s revitalization, renewed activity, and engagement in NAIFA-NYS’s efforts to grow membership and participation. Highlights of the program were remarks by Assembly Majority Leader (and former Assembly Insurance Committee Chair) Joseph Morelle (D, AD 146) and Senator Joe Robach (R-I-C, SD 66)—long-time friends of the association. Assemblyman Morelle praised the NAIFA-NYS pro-active agenda and, in a conversation with state staff, offered valuable insight and advice on how to proceed on the issue of state-run pension plans. In other good news, Senator Robach announced that he would sign on as a co-sponsor of our CE credit bill.
Other legislators and staff at the breakfast, which was held jointly with the Finger Lakes association, included Assem. Peter Lawrence (R-C-I, AD 134) and his Chief of Staff Aaron Baker; Assem. Mark Johns (R-C, AD 145) and his Chief of Staff Steve Delehanty; Assembly Deputy Chief of Staff Sean Hart; Spencer Bernard, Deputy Regional Director for Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb (R-C-I, AD 131), also representing Joseph Errigo (R, AD 133); Alan Richards, Legislative and Public Affairs Coordinator for Assem. Harry Bronson (D, AD 138); Bob Fox, Community Liaison for Assem. Stephen Hawley (R, AD 139), member of Assembly Insurance Committee; and Jesse Sleezer, District Director for Senator Richard Funke (R, SD 55).
