In the morning hours of June 12th, the NYS Assembly unanimously – in a vote of 120 to 0 – gave final passage to the NAIFA-NYS bill that requires the Superintendent of Financial Services to grant six (6) continuing education credits to active members of a statewide professional insurance producer association – including NAIFA-NYS.
Huge thanks to Sen. James Seward and Assem. Pamela Hunter, and their staffs, for their dedication and sponsorships – and to Assembly Insurance Committee Chair Kevin Cahill and his staff for their guidance and support.
This is a new day for producer associations in New York!
The CE credit bill has been the top priority bill on our 2018 affirmative legislative agenda, and passage by the legislature is a big win for our association.
WHAT THE BILL DOES:
– defines a “statewide professional insurance producer association” (i.e., in existence at least 10 years; dedicated to promoting integrity, trust, professionalism, and business interests of its members through education/advocacy/social interaction; issues a professional publication at least quarterly & other instructional guidance throughout the year; etc.)
– lists what a licensed producer must do to be considered “active” and eligible for the CE credits (member in good standing/dues paid in full; read the association’s code of ethics; attended at least one CE-certified educational session sponsored by the association)
– establishes a process by which the association will file with DFS a list of its members in good standing
– ONE MORE REASON TO BE A NAIFA-NYS MEMBER –
