The 2018 Syracuse legislative breakfast–delayed a few weeks thanks to a snowstorm that even our Syracuse members wouldn’t venture out in–took place on March 23rd at Justin’s Tuscan Grill. Local lawmakers, including Senate Majority Leader John DeFrancisco, were there to weigh in on life insurance and financial services issues affecting New York…and there was strong support for the role that NAIFA members play in New York and appreciation of the challenges that our agents and advisors face. High on the list was the Governor’s proposal for a state-run retirement program for the private sector, which would displace the work of our association members. The NAIFA-NYS government relations team also addressed a proposed DFS “best interest” standard for both life insurance and annuities, the DFS cyber-security reg, and our bill to grant CE credits to active members of NAIFA-NYS. An excellent event, Syracuse, as always.
